According to The Mirror, Ronald Koeman wants to sign Virgil Van Dijk from Southampton in the very near future.
The Dutchman has been impressive for the south coast side since he joined from Celtic over a year ago, but it is this season where his stock has gone through the roof.
Performances in recent weeks against Liverpool and, in fact, the Toffees have seen speculation around his future kick into gear with him being valued at £40 million.
That price, though, doesn’t appear to be deterring Koeman – delighting our Blues here in the Transfer Tavern.
For so long they’ve seen their side struggle to compete financially with the league’s biggest sides, losing out on key targets, but now they seem ready to mix it up with them once again in a bid to fire them to the top.
The likes of Yannick Bolasie joined in the summer and now Koeman appears ready to get the chequebook out once again when the window opens.
He can expect to face competition for the centre half’s signature but our Toffees punters by the bar reckon as Van Dijk and Koeman have already worked together they may be at an advantage.
