Everton may have suffered setback in Gabriel Barbosa pursuit

Everton may have been handed a potentially huge transfer blow for one of their targets in January.

The Toffees are thought to be in the market for a striker to help add some firepower to their forward line, with Gabriel Barbosa thought to be near the top of their list.

The Brazil international is believed to have a number of Premier League outfits interested in securing his services, with the likes of West Ham United and Crystal Palace having previously been linked with a move.

However, it appears a new side have jumped to the front of the queue, giving Marco Silva a possible setback in his pursuit for the 22-year-old.

According to Calciomercato, Fenerbahce are thought to be leading the race for Barbosa and are in pole position and are ready to present Inter Milan with a concrete offer.

The Verdict:

Everton will need to add a striker to their ranks in the winter transfer market as Cenk Tosun and Oumar Niasse appear to be struggling up front.

Silva has turned to Richarlison to play a more attacking role at times, who has been heavily relied upon by the Toffees.

Barbosa, who is also known as ‘Gabigol’, scored 18 goals for Santos this season and would help to improve things, however, it remains to be seen where exactly he will be playing his football in 2019.
