Former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes that although he has been impressed by Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s recent form, he is not worth the £50m price tag that has reportedly been attached to his name.

The Sun had suggested that Manchester United were ready to spend £50m on the 22-year-old striker after missing out on Erling Braut Haaland, who recently agreed to join Borussia Dortmund.
However, Robinson feels that his impressive performances of late do not warrant an asking price of that size.
Speaking to Football Insider, Robinson suggested that Calvert-Lewin is improving – but United would be overpaying somewhat if he were to move to Old Trafford for such an enormous fee.
He said: “I think a month ago most Everton fans would have taken him and driven him across the Lancashire border themselves, but not now.
“But he definitely has improved under Duncan Ferguson and Carlo Ancelotti, and he now looks like the striker – let’s give Marco Silva some credit – that Silva believed he was, judging by the amount of times he played him.
“I don’t think his form warrants a £50m move at the moment, but he’s certainly doing well.”
With Calvert-Lewin currently being valued at £19.8m by Transfermarkt, it would seem that a £50m asking price would be considered rather steep, even when taking his recent showings into account.
The striker has scored five times in his last six Premier League appearances to take his tally in all competitions this season into double figures.
However, he would presumably be in contention for a starting place at Manchester United with the likes of Marcus Rashford, who has netted 16 times this year – and is rated at the more handsome value of £72m.
The idea that United would therefore spend so much on what would currently be a second-rate attacking option could be seen as far-fetched, hence Robinson’s opinion that a price tag so high would not match Calvert-Lewin’s overall ability.
He has the remainder of the season to change that, of course, though you can see why Robinson would be perplexed if United were to follow through with their reported interest in the Everton striker.
