Everton: Harewood criticises Jordan Pickford

Speaking exclusively to The Transfer Tavern, Marlon Harewood has criticised Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford following his recent form.

Pickford struggling

Pickford has not had the best of times of it over the past few months and has been slammed by his own supporters for his recent displays.

Harewood believes his mistakes have actually cost the Toffees. He said:

“It’s hard because, obviously ,you’re playing week-in, week-out against top teams, everyone wants to do the exact same as what Everton are doing, winning games. Pickford’s gone a bit haywire with mistakes and stuff, and it’s cost them.”

Still number one

Despite a much-improved performance against Leeds at the weekend, Pickford really does appear to be struggling at the moment. Last season, he made four mistakes which led to goals for the Toffees, with only Newcastle’s Martin Dubravka making more, and he has already been responsible for one strike this term as well.

However, although he was dropped for the clash against Newcastle earlier this term by Carlo Ancelotti, the Italian is still a big fan of the England international. He jumped to the 26-year-old’s defence when he was criticised for his tackle on Virgil van Dijk in the Merseyside derby, and he reiterated his trust in Pickford by putting him back in the side for the match against Manchester United – also confirming that he had “no doubt” over his ability.

For now, it seems, Pickford is still the number one between the sticks at Goodison Park. Hopefully, he can use Ancelotti’s trust to find his way back to top form and make ex-players like Harewood change their mind.

In other news, Everton fans don’t want to sign this World Cup winner.
