TalkSPORT presenter Adrian Durham has launched an astonishing tirade on Everton Football Club after suggesting there is no reason that they should not be on a par with their successful neighbours on the red half of Merseyside.

In a rather bizarre rant, Durham implied that ‘bad decision-making’ has meant that the Toffees have missed out on similar glories to Liverpool, who have been crowned European and world champions over the last few months.
Durham also leapt to the defence of the small group of Everton fans who turned up at the club’s training ground to voice their concerns over the current state of the football team.
However, his insistence that Everton should be on the same level as their city rivals appeared to stick out.
He said: “There is literally no reason whatsoever that Everton shouldn’t be where Liverpool are.
“Now, Liverpool are top of the table, they’re European champions, they’re world champions.
“There is no reason why Everton shouldn’t be doing the same thing. The only reason it’s not happening is because of bad decision-making at the football club and because players aren’t performing as they should be performing.
“I actually think this is the best thing Everton fans could’ve done – gone to the training ground, got loud and noisy.
“If they make their feelings known to [Carlo] Ancelotti at the very start of his regime at Everton, then he will know, in no uncertain terms, there’s nowhere else for him to go but success – he has to deliver it, or he will be out.”
Durham may have outdone himself, here. While he offers up a pretty baseless argument, the notion that Everton should be where Liverpool are now is surely beyond farce.
Without a real justification for his ‘opinion’, it appears it has only been brought up because Everton just happen to be the local rivals of the best team in the country – if not the world – at the moment.
By his logic, surely the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Spurs should also be where Liverpool are too, given that they have been among a number of teams that have consistently placed higher than Everton over the last few years. But where is the anger towards those ‘underachieving’ clubs?
While it is fair to say players underperforming has led to little success at Goodison Park, to say they would have otherwise reached the lofty heights of Liverpool is surely a few stretches too far.
