Everton tracking Chris Smalling ahead of potential move

Everton have been performing well under the guidance of Marco Silva, especially at the back.

The Toffees shifted a number of goals last season before being tightened up and the Portuguese manager has managed to keep that going.

He appears to have managed to get the best out of Michael Keane, whilst the additions of Kurt Zouma and Yerry Mina look to be excellent ones.

However, the French defender is currently on loan from Chelsea, and it appears that Silva has turned his attention elsewhere, should they not be able to add him permanently.

According to a report by The Sun, Chris Smalling is now thought to be on the Toffees radar as his contract is set to expire at the end of the summer.

The Manchester United centre-back has had a solid season so far, however, doubts have surrounded his future at Old Trafford.

Everton are thought to be interested and have had scouts watch the England international in action and could be preparing for a move in January, knowing that the Red Devils will likely trigger the extension in Smalling’s current contract.

The Verdict:

Everton have looked solid at the back this season and a move for Smalling could be considered a gamble for the Toffees this season.

Although he is extremely experienced, the defender could likely cost the club a large asking price to bring to Goodison Park.

And, with Manchester United having already conceded more goals than Everton so far this season, it could be a move that warrants questions from their own fans.
