The Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping their club will bring Abel Hernandez to the club this summer on a bargain free transfer, but there is reason to believe that they should target another centre-forward as well.
Abel Hernandez’s links to the Whites have been an ever-present story in the British media in recent days, but it appears the club’s immediate concern is confirming the identity of Paul Heckingbottom’s successor. Regardless of the Leeds managerial situation, the club should look into the possibility of signing Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton as he could be exactly what they need at the spearhead of the attack next season.
Calvert-Lewin (valued at £13.5 million by Transfermarkt) was tasked with the responsibility of leading the line for Everton for the first-half of the season out of necessity rather than merit, and he performed an admirable role without writing too many headlines in the process.
The England U20 World Cup winner was often left isolated by an Everton side who suffered from a lack of direction and chemistry in the final-third, but he was constantly a willing runner and technically astute in possession of the ball.
At this stage in his career a loan move to the Championship would give Calvert-Lewin an ideal environment from which to gain plenty of first-team experience and build his confidence in-front of goal, so Leeds should make a bid for his services in the coming weeks.
According to a recent report from the Daily Mirror, Calvert-Lewin wants to remain at Goodison Park to fight for his first-team place amid interest from Bournemouth, but that could all change if Marco Silva eventually signs another striker.
With relentless hard-work, intricate link-up play and Premier League experience to bring to Elland Road, Leeds could finally sign a striker to fire them into the promotion places, so the new manager should place him at the top of his transfer wish list when he takes over in Yorkshire.
