Our Manchester City fans here in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to seeing their side getting going against Liverpool this weekend in what could be a massively entertaining game.
Both City and the Reds have started well this season with them playing some good attacking football and being unbeaten so far in the Premier League.
For sure, then, there is plenty riding on this game already this season as they look to keep pace with Manchester United and our landlord is expecting goals with both clubs’ defences arguably their weakest facets.
Speaking to Sky Sports’ PL Daily Show earlier today, though, former City defender Joleon Lescott does not feel that City’s defence is as weak as it has been suggested with him saying that goalkeeper Ederson has been an improvement on Claudio Bravo.
Indeed, when asked whether City’s players feel unsure with him about, he said:
“Speaking to some of the City players I don’t think that’s the case with Ederson. He’s come in, he’s done well, his confidence will be high. Obviously he’ll be disappointed with that goal against Everton but on the whole he hasn’t caused many problems for Man City.”
Good news for City fans to be hearing, then, ahead of this game that sees them come up against one of the best attacks in the league right now.
Landlord’s Verdict
Ederson has started fairly well this season and though he could have saved the goal Everton scored at the Etihad last time out, it wasn’t a massive howler.
For sure, this weekend will be another big test but there can be no doubt that he’ll feel that he is more than good enough to stand up to it.
