Ex PL man: Why this Liverpool star could get his career wish at Anfield

Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern cannot wait to see how their side is going to fare this weekend as they face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Arguably the biggest game of their season so far, the result will give the Reds a real idea of where they are at at this stage of the campaign and here by the bar we’re certainly looking forward to it.

Certainly, Jurgen Klopp will be planning already for who he thinks will play in this one and it remains to be seen if Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain gets his chance to make his Reds debut.

Indeed, if he does come on it’ll also be interesting to see if he gets his wish of playing in central midfield with Joleon Lescott – speaking on Sky Sports’ PL Daily show earlier today – tipping the former Arsenal man to make an impact in that role.

Indeed, he said:

“Definitely [he can play in centre midfield.]

“A lot’s been made of his football intelligence and I think that will show. Working with Alex at England level I’ve seen the qualities he has and he’s got a great understanding of the game and a great knowledge.”

‘The Ox,’ then, might just get his chance to play in the middle of the park at last and it remains to be seen if that occurs this weekend.

Landlord’s Verdict

The main reason Oxlade-Chamberlain moved to Liverpool was because he wants to play in the middle of the park and Lescott clearly feels he can play there.

However, with the Reds’ three midfielders in very good form at the moment it is hard to see just how he is going to break into the side in that particular area right now.
