Exclusive: Pundit claims Darren Moore will build a team around Josh Windass

Sheffield Wednesday and Darren Moore must prepare for life in League One and someone they will look to build around is Josh Windass given that he was a standout performer in the Championship, according to his father Dean Windass.

The Owls released a whole host of players at the end of last season but someone who remained is Windass after scoring nine times and teeing his teammates up six times as they fought against relegation unsuccessfully.

Will Sheffield Wednesday earn promotion?

Yes, of course!

No, not good enough!

No, not good enough!

Windass may have been expected to leave given his performances and ability to perform in the Championship but despite interest in him, the Owls will reportedly not accept anything less than £5 million for their star player.

It will be seen as imperative by Moore to ensure that he has Windass come the start of next season as having someone of his quality, alongside some experienced League One players, could see the Owls make a serious push for the promotion. Dean Windass spoke exclusively to Transfer Tavern on the subject:

“I think that was the conversation Darren had with Josh, he wants to build a team around him as they’ve got a better chance of going back up with him and their team than they do without him.”

WHO IS THE PLAYER?

A points deduction saw them on the back foot instantly last campaign and with reports suggesting that another one may be on the way because of the club’s finances, Moore will need his best players to not be sold if they are to maintain a respectable league position next season.

League One is as tough to get out of as ever before with the likes of Sunderland, Ipswich Town, Wigan Athletic and Portsmouth all wanting to escape the wilderness of England’s third tier.
