Gary Neville is one of the most successful English players of all time; he has won 8 league titles, 3 FA Cups and 2 European Cups. He also has 85 full international caps to his name and has shown loyalty to his club by staying with Manchester United for the duration of his career. He should really be a national hero but he just isn’t. He is one of the most irritating men in professional football.
It is difficult to pinpoint why he is just so annoying; it may be because he is regularly quoted as having an opinion on things that are nothing to do with him; it may be that he often leads the vociferous protests against the referee when United feel they have been wronged in some way; it may be his aversion to smiling, or it may just be his weak moustache.
Neville is known for his grumpy demeanour on the pitch but probably his most annoying habit is that he loves to comment on topics that have no affect on him. Whether he is leading England players in a media snub or rejoicing in a Liverpool defeat there is something very off-putting about the United right-back known as Citizen Neville.
The only redeeming quality Neville has is the potential comedy value of some of his recent performances. Whether he is being caught out by a winger with any sort of pace or finding himself playing everyone onside, there is generally something to smile about with Gary Neville. However it is important to remember that in his prime, Neville was a very good player, and one of the best crossers in the league for quite a while. It is a shame that he makes a fool of himself on such a regular basis.

Nah, you don’t want to smack Neville… you couldn’t make it any worse. I’d personally go for Fabio Capello for sacking the best England Captain we have had in decades… and replacing him with a drugs test cheat.
