Following his comments during the international break a number of the Premier League’s top clubs are reported to be interested in signing Everton’s Marouane Fellaini.
Whilst away with the Belgian national team the midfielder said he was looking to leave Goodison Park at the end of the season, if not before come the January transfer window. Though he took to Facebook to state he was happy at Everton, David Moyes has delivered a dressing down to his prized asset.
The timing of his surprise admission was unusual to say the least given that the summer transfer window had just closed. So Fellaini remains an Everton player, for now.
But the Toffees may have to brace themselves as clubs look to capitilise on Fellaini’s apparent unrest. Speaking to the Mirror, Moyes appears philosophical about the situation. Knowing nothing can happen until January at the earliest and safe in the knowledge that it would take a huge offer to see his midfielder star walk away from his five year contract.
Yet it does now see that Fellaini will leave Goodison Park at some point. Sir Alex Ferguson is known to be an admirer of the Belgian international, who’s opening game performance against Manchester United can only have sparked further interest. Here we take a look at why, if he does leave Everton, Fellaini should head to Old Trafford.
He needs to prove he can perform at the top level
- Fellaini is certainly flavour of the month at the moment and rightly so, he is an in form player. But that hasn’t always been the case and given the hefty transfer fee he was often chastised in his early Everton career. Last season he began to show the extent of his ability and has continued to this season. But he lacks consistency consistent, as his performance against West Brom proved. He has proved he can perform in the Premier League. If he is going to be considered a quality midfielder he needs to prove he can play consistently well in a team competing for titles and playing in the Champions League.
Man Utd’s midfield needs strengthening
- Despite their title credentials a lot has been made about United’s perceived weakness in the middle of the park. While many suggest they need a high profile creative midfielder, United are not blessed with players who can do the ‘nitty gritty’ defensive role. The role Roy Keane filled that perhaps they have never replace. Fellaini could certainly provide this element and you expect that his tough tackling, combativeness, plus his aerial dominance would impress Ferguson.
Fergie would bring out the best in him
- As suggested in point one, Fellaini has struggled for consistency. But there is no denying his talent and the fact that a number Europe’s big guns have expressed an interest in him is testament to his ability. The 24-year-old aggression and competitiveness make him very much a Ferguson player. He is not the finished article, but Ferguson has a knack of bringing out the best in players who can be something of an enigma. Fergie would not stand for below par performances, petulant fouls and needless yellow cards. If these were eradicated then Fellaini could go on to become a very good player.

as much as I rate fellaini he isnt what united need. yes he is physical but he doesnt have the mobility or speed to cover what uniteds current midfield weaknesses are. he isnt the missing piece for united unfortunately.

Fellaini is not what united need in dat mildfield, United need who can replace Paul scholes nd Carrieck and Fellaini is not hundred percent fit in those two roles so United should look for good replacements.
