Matty Cash impressed many Nottingham Forest fans in his first start of the season, saving them from embarrassment by scoring an added team equaliser against Bury.
Aitor Karanka’s men went behind early on against the League Two side, and matters were made worse when goalkeeper Jordan Smith was sent off later in the first half. But Cash’s late equaliser forced the game to a penalty shootout. Despite missing his penalty, Cash’s side still went on to beat Bury in a nerve-wracking penalty showdown.
The 21-year-old midfielder has been praised for his energy and commitment, something that cannot be said for other members of his team. His performance would have surely given him a chance to start for Forest when they travel to Wigan this weekend.
Cash managed to score only two goals in 25 appearances for The Reds last season, so this is encouraging for the midfielder, as he will hope to appear on the scoresheet more often this term.
