Forget Butland: Arsenal should target 1 of these 2 goalkeepers instead to replace awful Cech

Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping Arsene Wenger can replace the ageing Petr Cech with a top quality goalkeeper. As popular a figure as the former Chelsea custodian is, Old Father Time is seemingly catching up with him.

Arsenal are seemingly on the lookout to replace their current No.1 as they look to add some defensive structure at long, long last. Even though the Czech international has been immense for club and country over the years, it’s looking like it’s all catching up with him.

One name that our regulars have been talking about is Stoke City’s England keeper Jack Butland. Many in the bar agree he would be a great replacement, however, the other half of the bar feel that there are better ‘keepers out there than Butland to replace Cech.

If the Gunners are to mount any type of challenge in the Premier League next season, a top quality and assured ‘keeper has got to be on top of the shopping list. Indeed, our landlord has been on the lookout across Europe and sees these TWO GK’s as a perfect candidate for the Emirates role…

Alisson

The Roma ‘keeper has recently been linked with a move to Liverpool, as they also search for a new No.1. The Brazilian international is an ever-present for both club and country and can be the confidence the defence has needed behind them.

He’s great at close-range shot stopping and he’s concentrations levels are high, for when the team need him the most. At 25, Alisson could become the Gunners’ custodian for the next ten years or so as they possibly go into a new era, post-Wenger.

Jirí Pavlenka

Petr Cech’s understudy in the national team, Pavelenka could look to replace him at his club as well as for the Czech Republic. At 25-years-old, he could be similar to Alisson and be a top goalkeeper for the Gunners for many a year. At the moment he’s plying his trade with Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, though looks ready for the step up.

He’s fantastic at reflex saves and often opts to punch rather than catch the ball but his price tag suggests he could be a bargain signing for Wenger.
