Forget Fekir: Liverpool and £58.5m-rated attacker are absolutely perfect for each other

Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are devastated at the latest news coming from Melwood following the collapse of one of the club’s biggest transfer deals ever.

Jurgen Klopp has wasted no time in revamping his squad this summer following defeat in the Champions League final against Real Madrid. Naby Keita’s arrival from RB Leipzig was already confirmed before the German sealed a £40m deal for Monaco midfielder Fabinho completely out of the blue. Next on his list of targets was Lyon attacker – Nabil Fekir.

After a fee was agreed with Lyon, Fekir went as far as picking his squad number and conducting an interview with Liverpool’s TV channel before the move collapsed. Issues seemingly arose following his medical which led to the Reds cancelling the deal. For now, it seems the Lyon captain will be staying in France.

Liverpool must now turn their attention to other targets with Klopp still searching for a creative midfielder. They would be wise to rekindle their interest in Monaco star – Thomas Lemar. The Reds pursued the Frenchman back in January following Philippe Coutinho’s departure but failed to lure him to Anfield. Now, the time is right.

Valued at £58.5m by Transfermarkt, Lemar did not enjoy the season as much as Fekir. The 22-year-old was crucial to Monaco’s title bid the season before last, with a combined tally of 28 goals and assists but this campaign he has managed just 12. Often deployed on the left wing, Lemar can be isolated and looked lost at times without Kylian Mbappe.

A move to Merseyside could be just what he needs to rediscover his best form. The French international would thrive in Klopp’s system, the creative attacking midfielder in a 4-3-3. Known for his pressing and intensity, Lemar has the potential to develop into one of the world’s best.

Losing Fekir is a big blow but signing Lemar would put a smile on our regulars faces again.
