The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate to see a few more young players in the Blues’ first team this season. With very little to fight for in the English top flight, for most, it could be the perfect oppurtunity for some young players get a chance.
However, whilst a few games at the end of the season will be welcomed by the Blues’ academy, what Chelsea really need is to bring a few players into the fold for the entire season. Next season, then, offers the perfect chance to promote a few youngsters.
Immediate attention will likely to turn to the Chelsea players on loan, and even someone like Callum Hudson-Odoi, who has had a small taste of first team action at Stamford Bridge this season.
However, Chelsea’s academy is rich and full of incredible talent, and there are far more players that have the ability to make the jump beyond the household names.
Looking beyond those players, then, Chelsea must get these 2 wonderkids in the first team next season…
Trevoh Chalobah
Young brother of Nathaniel Chalobah, Trevoh is displaying all of the quality that his sibling showed at Stamford Bridge – and you could even argue that he is displaying even more potential.
He’s been a bit of an anchor for the Blues’ developmental system over the last few years, providing brilliant quality on a number of levels.
A central defender by trade, the Englishman excels when making tackles and stopping play, and given Chelsea’s defensive issues this season, he could be a real assett.
Dujon Sterling
Dujon Sterling is still a developing player, but his versatility could make him invaluable to the Chelsea first team.
Able to play in a number of positions including across the defence and across the midfield, Sterling is a jack of all trades, and so he’d be able to play in a number of positions at Stamford Bridge.
The defensive edge to his game, combined with brilliant offensive skills, makes him a prime candidate to play in a wing-back role, and so he has the potential to excel on the flanks for the Chelsea first team.
The Blues need more depth on the wings, and so he’d be a great choice.
