Forget Loftus-Cheek: This is why Tammy Abraham is the future of Chelsea

Over the last few years, the name of only one young player has been on the lips of the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern: Ruben Loftus-Cheek…

Brought into the first team fold by Jose Mourinho, the Englishman has been touted with greatness ever since. However, fast forward to 2017, and there is a new kid on the block that could be about to overtake his English compatriot – Tammy Abraham.

Don’t take anything away from Loftus-Cheek. In various youth and developmental levels, he has done it all. He’s won trophies and controlled games, and that is certainly the hallmark of a top prospect. But that’s also his problem – he has only done it at youth level. Though through no fault of his own, he hasn’t made an impact at a professional level yet, and at 21-years-old, that could now be his undoing.

Compare that with Tammy Abraham, who last season took the Championship by storm. Representing Bristol City, the forward bagged a remarkable 23 league goals, and that’s a tally that earned him a spot in the Premier League this term. He has since enjoyed a similar run of form during his early days for Swansea City – scoring regularly in pre-season and even opening his Premier League account.

At just 19-years-old, Tammy is far more of a complete player than Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and that will stand him in good stead as he looks to kick on. Meanwhile, Ruben is facing a season that could define his career with Crystal Palace. We may be sitting here in 12 months discussing a fantastic season for him, but that remains uncertain.

Abraham, though, at present, is looking to be a guaranteed future hit.
