Losing Danny Welbeck was a significant blow for Arsenal. He wasn’t a regular in the team, but his influence was still there, and he regularly chipped in with important moments during the opening months of the season.
Despite the sadness and disappointment surrounding Welbeck’s injury, the fact is that Arsenal simply have to move on from him, at least for the time being, and for the moment at least, learn to deal without him in the team.
They appear to be ready to do just that, given that they’re apparently eager to land a replacement in the form of Nicolas Pepe, according to the Times. The Lille winger has enjoyed a tremendous season, and Unai Emery has clearly taken notice.
However, whilst Pepe is a great player, the Gunners shouldn’t move too quickly.
Indeed, rather, they should be looking across Europe at a few alternatives before making a final decision.
With that said, forget Pepe, landing these 2 wingers would allow Arsenal to forget all about Welbeck…
Thorgan Hazard
Whilst not yet as good as his older brother, Thorgan Hazard is making quite the name for himself in Europe at present.
Since leaving Chelsea for Borussia Monchengladbach, Hazard has truly come of age, and he’s emerged as one of their best players this term.
He’s got tremendous technical ability and dribbling skill, and he’s getting better with every passing week for both club and country.
Hazard is a natural winger, and so he’d fill a void that is currently present within the Arsenal squad. His tally this term of 7 league goals and 4 assists tells the whole story.
Memphis Depay
Memphis Depay is a name that is well known to supporters in England, but the Depay of 2018 is something completely different.
Of course, Depay struggled at Man Utd previously, but after leaving the club for Lyon, his career has gone to the next level. He’s now arguably one of the most in-form wingers in Europe.
He’s bagged 5 goals in 10 league starts so far this season, and it’s his overall play that has improved more than anything else. With strength, dribbling and consistency, Depay is an entirely different player to that which struggled last time out in England.
He’s incredibly versatile, given that he’s able to play across the attack and, indeed, as a number 9 – where’s he’s often featured this term.
Depay would be able to make an impact regardless of his position, though.
