Forget Seri: Liverpool should sign 1 of these 2 midfielders instead

Liverpool supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in recent weeks after seeing their side produce a fine run of form to propel themselves back inside the Premier League’s top four, and thus set them up for what could be a successful second half of the campaign.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were ninth in the table following their 4-1 crushing at the hands of Tottenham back on October 22, but they have since then won five and drawn the other of their six league matches, with their recent 5-1 thrashing of Brighton moving them back into the top four given Arsenal’s defeat to Manchester United. And with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Philippe Coutinho in great form, our resident Liverpudlians are getting increasingly excited about what their side could go on the achieve in the second half of the season.

Thus, there have been many thrilled Reds fans in the Tavern this week, although many are already looking ahead to the January transfer window and what players Klopp could look to bring in to seriously bolster their ranks.

And one particular report caught their eye this week, namely that from The Daily Mail which suggests that the Merseysiders, alongside Premier League leaders Manchester City, are lining up a move for Nice midfielder Jean Michael Seri.

The 26-year-old has spent the last two seasons at the French outfit and in that time has produced several impressive displays, scoring seven goals and laying on nine assists in 34 Ligue 1 games last term to help the club to third place in the table, and thus a spot in the third qualifying round of this season’s Champions League.

And his excellent form for the French side has reportedly attracted the interest of Klopp’s Liverpool, as well as Pep Guardiola’s Man City, whose interest has likely been heightened by Seri’s reported desire to move to the Premier League.

However, the Reds should forget about a move for the Ivory Coast international in January, and instead focus their efforts on landing one of these TWO midfielders…

Steven N’Zonzi

English football fans will know Steven N’Zonzi chiefly from his three-year stint at Stoke City between 2012 and 2015, yet he has since gone from strength to strength with 2014, 2015, and 2016 Europa League champions Sevilla.

The 28-year-old has played 108 games for the La Liga side in the last two years and has earned many rave reviews for his impressive displays in their midfield, to the point that he has been linked with big money moves to some of Europe’s top clubs in recent times.

And Liverpool are one side reportedly interested in the two-time France international, and with the future of Emre Can far from certain heading into 2018, it’s a move Klopp and the Reds hierarchy must look to strike come the New Year.

Leon Goretzka

Leon Goretzka’s future at German club Schalke has been subject to speculation for a while now, what with his contract up at the end of the season and he seemingly no nearer to agreeing an extension.

The 22-year-old has been in fine form for the Bundesliga outfit in recent times with four goals in just 11 league appearances this term, adding to his five goals and five assists last time round in their run to tenth place in the German top-flight.

Thus, the Germany international is unlikely to be short of suitors come the New Year, what with he able to sign a pre-contract agreement in January, and Liverpool are one team reportedly seeking a deal for the talented midfielder.

And given his exploits in the last 12 months or so for Schalke, it’s a move Klopp must make in the winter window.
