Man Utd’s summer could be about to get interesting, according to the Independent. The English publication is reporting that the Red Devils are looking to kick-start their summer, and one target that they have in mind is Bayern Munich ace Thiago.
Formerly of Barcelona, Thiago isn’t a regular over in Germany, and his injury problems over the last few years have been well documented. Nonetheless, Man Utd are apparently keen, and if they’re looking for a creative midfielder to reinvent their team, they could do a lot worse than Thiago.
However, they could also do a lot better.
There’s no doubting the Spaniard’s quality, but there’s also no denying the fact that he has struggled in Germany, and so perhaps another option could be a better choice.
Man Utd, of course, want to regain their superiority in Europe, and they aren’t going to do that by signing a Bayern Munich castaway.
With that said, Man Utd should consider these 2 alternatives if they want to win the league…
Nabil Fekir plays slightly further forward than Thiago, but he’d be able to have a huge impact all the same.
The Frenchman is coming off the back of a tremendous campaign for Lyon last season, and he played a decent-sized role for his country at the World Cup this summer – picking up a winning medal in the process.
A master at creating for his teammates, Fekir bagged 8 assists in Ligue 1 last season, whilst Thiago bagged just 2 in the Bundesliga.
He’s also a prolific goalscorer – he scored a whopping 18 goals last term.
For Man Utd, then, he could be perfect.
Marco Verratti is another big European name that could be a decent fit at Old Trafford.
If the Red Devils want someone that can play slightly deeper, he may be a good choice.
The Italian has been the main man in the middle for PSG over the last few years, and he is the primary string puller for a team that has become increasingly dominant over the last few years.
At 25-years-old, he’s in the prime of his career, and a partnership with him and Paul Pogba or Fred would be a mouthwatering prospect.
He wouldn’t be cheap, but he’d be worth the sizeable investment.
