Our Everton fans here in the Transfer Tavern don’t really know what to make over the latest managerial rumour being linked to Goodison Park.

With Arsenal on a major decline over the past few season, it’s all accumulating into these final few months of the season and Arsene Wenger looks to be a dead man walking. Although nothing concrete has been mentioned, there are plenty of rumours flying around the pub about the Frenchman’s future after seeing his stock plummet this season.

Indeed, if Arsene Wenger was to leave Arsenal this summer, there would be no shortage of job offers for the seasoned veteran, and one of them could be Everton.

Our regulars are not to keen on the idea in all honesty and, think they should stick with the current man in charge Sam Allardyce if that is the case. Our landlord has been weighing up the pro and cons of hiring Wenger and letting him take the helm at the Toffees. Indeed, he has come to the conclusion it would be a stupid idea and gives his TWO reasons why…

Not adapted to the times

When Wenger came to the Premier League, he indeed revolutionised the game and everyone in it. He had immediate success for many a year as he went toe to toe with Sir Alex Ferguson and, up until 2005, was regarded as one of the best managers around.

However, since then the Frenchman has coasted on that successful time and never really recycled himself, the team or the way he plays to keep ahead of the game like he was in the late 90’s. Everton needs to push forward, and Wenger is not the man to go with for the future.

Need to go with youth

Everton need a youthful and motivated manager to bring the good times back to Goodison Park and Wenger, at the moment, is looking every bit as tired as his tactics. English football now needs to start giving different managers a chance in the top leagues, and going with a Wenger-type man will not pay off in the future.

If the Toffees want to push on after their glut of signings in the summer, Wenger is not the answer.
