Everton supporters in the Transfer Tavern were again left significantly underwhelmed by their side after seeing the Toffees draw 1-1 at Brighton on Sunday, a result which leaves the club 16th in the Premier League and just two points clear of the bottom three.

The Merseyside outfit went into their clash with the Seagulls last weekend having mustered just two victories from their opening seven matches, and they looked set for a fourth defeat of the campaign when Anthony Knockaert gave Chris Hughton’s men the lead with just eight minutes of the game remaining. However, the Toffees did somewhat ease the pressure on under-fire boss Ronald Koeman by levelling proceedings in the final minute, with Wayne Rooney slotting home a penalty following Bruno’s foul on Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Nonetheless, it was yet another lacklustre display from Koeman’s men and one which has not inspired confidence among our resident Toffees fans, but it seems that the club are seeking to put things right in January given that they are reportedly interested in bringing Atletico Madrid’s Kevin Gameiro to Goodison Park.

The 30-year-old moved to the Spanish capital last year yet, despite bagging 16 goals last season, has struggled for first team football this time round, playing just 27 minutes of action in La Liga for Diego Simeone’s side.

And, as such, the Frenchman’s future at the club has been subject to speculation in recent times, and reports suggest that Everton are seeking to bring him to the Premier League in a bid to solve their striking crisis.

And were the Toffees able to land the £21.6 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) in January, here is how their formidable front line could look come February 1…

Nikola Vlasic

Several of Everton’s summer signings haven’t quite had the desired effect yet at Goodison Park, but Nikola Vlasic has certainly won over the Toffees faithful.

The 20-year-old made the move from Hajduk Split during the summer after impressing in their Europa League qualifier against Koeman’s side, and he has since gone from strength to strength with six appearances for the Merseyside club, in which time he has managed one goal.

And his fine efforts on the pitch, especially at a time whereby others are clearly struggling for confidence, looks set to earn the Croatia international regular football for the next few weeks at least, as he becomes an increasingly important member of Koeman’s squad.

Ademola Lookman

He may not have received much first team football this season, but Ademola Lookman’s pace and energy down the flanks could seriously help Everton get out of their current plight.

The 19-year-old made the move to Goodison Park back in January of this year and made an immediate impact by coming off the bench on debut to score against Manchester City, but he has since then added just 11 further first team appearances for the Toffees.

Surprisingly, the England Under-20 World Cup winner has featured just four times for the club this season and not at all in the Premier League, which given their current struggles in the attacking third of the pitch has stunned some of our resident Evertonians.

Bringing him back in and giving him the licence to get at defenders down the flanks could be exactly what Everton need to start climbing the Premier League table.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin

While many Everton players haven’t lived up to expectations this season, forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin is one of a few that certainly have.

The England Under-20 World Cup winner, having bagged in the final against Venezuela over the summer, has scored three goals and laid on three assists in 15 appearances for Koeman’s side this term, and is slowly but surely becoming a vital member of the squad at Goodison Park.

The 20-year-old has started their last three Premier League games and appeared in all eight matches thus far to underline his status in the squad, and what with Calvert-Lewin able to play either as the main man up top or slightly deeper, his inclusion in this front line will give Everton more flexibility and unpredictably when attacking.

Kevin Gameiro

Kevin Gameiro made the move to Atletico Madrid back in 2016 and did reasonably well for the club last season, netting 16 goals in all competitions to help Diego Simeone’s side reach the semi-finals of the Champions League, and indeed to third place in La Liga.

However, this season has been in complete contrast given he has managed just 27 minutes of league action thus far and nothing at all in the Champions League, and as such the 30-year-old’s future in the Spanish capital is far from certain.

Koeman’s Everton have been linked with the forward in a bid to solve their own striking worries, and given that Gameiro is a fine finisher and can hold the ball up well, he’d slot effortlessly into this front line, and thus give the Toffees a much better outlet in the second half of the season.
