Everton: Frank McAvennie hails James Rodriguez’s impact at Goodison Park

Frank McAvennie has hailed the impact that James Rodriguez has had since he moved to Everton from Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Speaking to Football Insider, the former Celtic and West Ham United striker waxed lyrical about the Colombia international after his rather impressive start to the 2020/21 season. He said:

“Everton just made so many great signings this summer.

“The boy that has come in from Real Madrid – Rodriguez – unbelievable.

“He got Man of the Match last weekend and did not sprint once. I do not understand how he can do that. My God, he has just been spraying the ball all over the place.

“This season is going unbelievably for them. It is just a shame nobody can see it!”

Rodriguez stole the show against Brighton

Indeed, Rodriguez stole the show against Brighton  in the Premier League over the weekend. The 29-year old scored two goals and provided one assist as the Merseyside club ran out 4-2 winners against the Seagulls to maintain their 100% start in the top flight, with four wins out of four games so far.

Not only did Rodriguez heavily contribute to the final score, but he was also the standout performer according to Sofascore with a quite impressive 9.5 overall rating, the best out of anyone on the pitch at Goodison Park.

The attacking midfielder also registered two successful dribbles, in addition to posting a 94% passing success rate and making two key passes in total, as per Sofascore.

Rodriguez is taking the Premier League by storm

Rodriguez has scored three goals and supplied a further two assists in total in just four appearances in the Premier League.

The Colombian has also won a staggering 6.3 of his duels per match, as well as creating four big chances and averaging 3.3 key passes, two successful dribbles and 1.8 shots a game so far (via Sofascore).

Everton are top of the Premier League

Carlo Ancelotti’s team are currently top of the Premier League, and given that Rodriguez has played in all four of their matches, he has certainly had a positive impact on the results, with the Blues picking up a maximum 12 points on offer.
