Liverpool supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern have been left impressed with news from The Express that Valencia left back Aly Cissokho has agreed personal terms ahead of a potential move to Anfield.
The former Lyon defender has himself revealed the news, saying: “Liverpool came to me and it’s true that I have agreed to join them. Now it’s down to the clubs to decide a transfer deal.”
Speculation in the tavern had indicated that Liverpool were to pay Valencia €1 million (£870,000) for the player to move to the Anfield club on a year-long loan. Then depending on performances Brendan Rodgers would have the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season for a further €4 million (£3.5 million).
But it seems that the La Liga would rather see the defender leave immediately.
Cissokho added: “Liverpool want a loan, while Valencia prefer a permanent transfer.”
Worrying for Reds supporters the 25-year-old did admit that the transfer could still collapse even at this late stage with the defender willing to remain in Spain if the worst happens.
He said: “We should know more this week. If nothing happens in that time it will mean I am definitely not joining Liverpool.”
The Reds look set to beat Sunderland to the the one-cap French international as they look to add competition for Jose Enrique who who has struggled with injuries since his move from Newcastle United.
