It’s not been a pleasant few weeks for Maurizio Sarri and Chelsea. The Blues were humbled against Man City on Sunday, and it’s fair to say that their form has never been worse so far under the manager’s tutelage.
Unfortunately for the manager, poor form is never tolerated at Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea regularly opting to sack managers quickly if their form doesn’t turn around.
For Sarri, though, his team’s form isn’t the only concern that is currently pressing.
Indeed, according to the Mirror, Sarri is facing further scrutiny from the club due to his treatment of Callum Hudson-Odoi. Hudson-Odoi has hardly featured for the Blues in recent weeks after staying at the club in January, and that doesn’t bode well for his long-term future.
The club are said to feel as though Sarri’s attitude is contradicting their public stance, and not only does that serve to impact upon the club’s reputation – but it also could push Hudson-Odoi closer to the exit door.
The Verdict
Amidst Chelsea’s poor form over the last couple of weeks, the situation surrounding Hudson-Odoi has gone under the radar somewhat, but this is perhaps an even bigger problem for Chelsea.
The fact of the matter is simple here – if Hudson-Odoi doesn’t play regularly, he will leave Stamford Bridge. That’s obvious at this point.
Not only is him not playing causing Chelsea to lose out in the present, it poses an even more significant problem long-term. Sarri is the only person who can be blamed for this.
If Willian and Pedro were doing well in his absence, that would be one thing, but they’re both struggling. It truly makes no sense that he’s getting so few opportunities – and at this point, it’s going to contribute to him losing his job unless he changes.
