Does anyone know if it is true that when Ferguson allowed the loan of Danny Wellbeck to Sunderland he specified that Wellbeck had to play a certain number of games?
This can be the only possible reason that Wellbeck was not substituted in Sunderlands League Cup match against West Ham, he was absolute rubbish!!
He received lots of the ball, but every time he got it the move broke down. He tripped over the ball, over his own feet and never managed to pass the ball to a Sunderland player, some of his passes would have been brilliant if he had been wearing a West Ham shirt.
In the second half when the cats went to two up front he wasn’t partnering Bent as much as getting in his way making the same runs and taking up the same space.
Every time Sunderland made a substitution the crowd were praying that Wellbeck would be the one to go off – but no, he was still there at the end.
So, if Ferguson has said that Wellbeckhas to play a certain number of games then he should be sent back to play them for United who may have sufficient top quality players so that this lame duck doesn’t have such a detrimental effect on the team.
Steve Bruce sold Kenwynne Jones because of lack of consistency, seven games into the season and Wellbeck has been worth his place for the half of a game that he played against Man City, even Jones was more consistent than that.
