Fulham have submitted a bid for Fluminense midfielder Andre, according to 90min.
The Lowdown: Fulham targeting a midfielder
The Cottagers have been linked with new midfielders throughout the January transfer window, with Preston North End’s Ben Whiteman said to be on their list of transfer targets, while Abdoulaye Doucoure has also been linked.
Strengthening in central midfield was considered one of Marco Silva‘s priorities heading into the January market, although they have missed out on their targets – including Weston McKennie – and they have now turned their attention to Andre.
The Latest: Bid submitted for Andre
According to 90min, the Cottagers have made a bid to sign the Brazilian, amid interest from a number of elite clubs across Europe, including the likes of Barcelona and Liverpool.
However, it appears unlikely that the 21-year-old will leave his current club any time soon, as he has recently renewed his contract until 2026, so Fluminense are under no pressure to sell.
The Verdict: Get it done?
If Fulham are able to strike an agreement with the Brazilian club, they would be bringing in a player with a range of different qualities. Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has previously described him as a ‘leader‘, highlighting the positive influence that the 21-year-old has on his team-mates.
Another very impressive part of the youngster’s game is his ability to pick out a pass, weighing in with a completion rate of 92.3% over the course of the past year. That puts him in the 99th percentile compared to other midfielders in what FBref term ‘Men’s Next 8 Competitions’.
The multi-talented starlet also ranks in the 99th percentile for dribbles completed per 90, averaging 2.18 per match in the same timeframe, so it is disappointing that a move does not appear to be in the offing despite Fulham’s bid, as Andre is showing all the hallmarks that he is ready for the step up to the Premier League.
