Glasgow Rangers: Fans loved club’s throwback to Brahim Hemdani goal against Osasuna

Amid transfer speculation linking South Africa midfielder Bongani Zungu with a move to Glasgow Rangers, the Ibrox club posted a throwback to another player from the continent who used to line out for the Light Blues.

The club’s official Twitter account @RangersFC featured as its Goal of the Day a strike from Brahim Hemdani, namely his stoppage time equaliser against Osasuna in the UEFA Cup in 2007.

The Algerian defensive midfielder played 93 times for the ‘Gers between 2005 and 2009 and, while he only managed two goals in that time, both were late equalisers – one against the Spanish outfit, the other in an Old Firm derby.

Hemdani had plenty of memorable European moments in his time at Ibrox, playing in both legs of the Champions League last 16 tie against Villarreal in 2006 and featuring in nine matches (including the final) in the UEFA Cup campaign two years later, along with his goal against Osasuna.

These ‘Gers fans on Twitter fondly recalled his goal against the La Liga side, with one supporter calling him a “legend” and another feeling that he does not get due credit for his performances with the Light Blues:
