Plenty of Glasgow Rangers fans have been drooling over compilation footage of Allan McGregor that was posted on the UEFA Europa League’s official Twitter account (via @EuropaLeague).
Ahead of the return of the competition next week, in which the ‘Gers face Bayer Leverkusen in the round of 16, a video was posted on social media showing some of the 38-year-old’s saves from the group stage of this year’s tournament.

The video features clips of him tipping a Christian Fassnacht over the bar against Young Boys, making two reaction saves in quick succession away to Porto and twice denying Feyenoord’s Steven Berghuis.
Those were among 21 saves that McGregor has made in his nine games in the competition proper in 2019/20. Perhaps the most fateful of those was his stop to deny Palhinha at Ibrox when the ‘Gers were trailing 2-0 against Braga before coming back to win 3-2 in a pulsating round of 32 first leg in February (as per BBC).

The veteran goalkeeper is something of an Ibrox icon, having racked up 350 appearances so far for the club, and one ‘Gers fan on Twitter declared that he is “as important as Morelos”, even with the Colombian – who is currently the subject of intense transfer speculation – scoring 29 goals last season.
Ahead of the Light Blues’ European clash against Leverkusen, these ‘Gers supporters savoured the footage of McGregor and will surely hope that he can repeat those heroics next Thursday:
