The Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern have been watching the World Cup with keen interest in recent days in search of players who could potentially move to Goodison Park this summer, and it seems one player particularly caught the eye last Sunday.
Signing players on the back of impressive international tournaments is generally considered a risky and short-sighted approach to take in the transfer market, but the Everton supporters on Twitter are choosing to ignore that notion. Hirving Lozano – commonly referred to as ‘Chucky’ – played a starring role in Mexico’s shock victory over the current-holders Germany on Sunday afternoon and scored the decisive winning goal in the first-half.
Lozano (valued at £22.5 million by Transfermarkt) was bookmarked as one to watch for the tournament on the back of his sensational season in the Dutch Eredivisie with PSV Eindhoven in which he bagged 17 goals and provided 11 assists from just 29 appearances in all-competitions, and he certainly didn’t disappoint on his World Cup debut.
The tricky winger showed immense levels of pace and intricate link-up play on the counter-attack which suggested he could tear up defences in the Premier League.
And the 22-year-old could be set for a move to English football next season according to the Liverpool Echo, with Everton’s Director of Football Marcel Brands free to raid his former club PSV this summer.
In response to the reports and Lozano’s performance against Germany, the Everton supporters turned out in their numbers on Twitter to praise him for his impact and call for their club to secure his signature this summer.
However, a handful of the Everton supporters acknowledged that they are likely to face plenty of competition for Lozano following his eye-catching display last weekend.
Here’s what the Everton fans have had to say about Chucky on Twitter…
The #Lozano to Everton rumours are so exciting. Would be such a good signing. Come on Everton, get it done!

Lozano will never be coming to Everton after this performance. Man, I would have loved to see him run down the wing for our Toffees @EvertonArentWe
