Glasgow Rangers: Ayr and Morton want to sign youngter Josh McPake on loan

With the summer transfer window currently open, Glasgow Rangers will be looking to bring in some players whilst some will leave, and one of their younger stars is attracting the interest of some sides in the Scottish Championship.

According to The Scottish Sun, Ayr United and Greenock Morton are keen on signing 18 year-old Josh McPake on loan for the season.

The player is highly rated by Steven Gerrard and was in the squad for the pre season friendly against English side Coventry City. The manager believes a loan move would be ideal for McPake so that he can get more game time.

The right winger was loaned out to Dundee FC for the first half of last season where he made seven appearances, and picked up one assist, per Transfermarkt. For the Gers, he has only made one senior appearance for the side in the Europa League qualifiers.

However he has made one appearance in the UEFA Youth League as well as playing for the Glasgow Rangers reserves in the 2019/20 Challenge Cup in which he made three appearances and scored two goals, per Transfermarkt.

The fact that Gerrard rates him highly bodes very well for the attacker, and his appearances in the Challenge Cup last season highlights that he has an eye for goal.

However, his loan spell at Dundee FC highlights that he needs more time at a lower level. This is perfectly fine for someone so young, so a loan move to either Ayr or Morton would be a good move for all involved. The winger would hopefully get consistent football and this would help him become a better player.

He has also managed five appearances for the Scotland U19 side, scoring one goal, per Transfermarkt, and this highlights that he has a potential which is being noticed. If McPake could perform well on loan in the Scottish Championship, then there is no doubt that he could make his way into the Glasgow Rangers squad the season after.
