Glasgow Rangers target Haris Belkebla has signed a new contract at Stade Brestois that will keep him at the club until 2023.

The Gers were said to be interested in the 26-year-old midfielder, who made 23 appearances for the Ligue 1 side in the previous campaign. He is also an Algeria international, with him having made his debut in a 5-0 victory over Botswana last year.
Now, though, it has been revealed that £1.08m-valued Belkebla (as per Transfermarkt) will be staying with his current club, meaning that the Gers have all but lost out on his signature.
This may actually be good news for the 54-time Scottish champions – they clearly have enough players who can play in the defensive midfield role in the likes of Ryan Jack, Glen Kamara, Steven Davis and Scott Arfield. The Gers could do with another midfielder – Steven Gerrard has even said as much – but as Brian Laudrup pointed out, they need more creativity rather than defensive soliditiy.

The signing of Belkebla, therefore, would have been a waste of everyone’s time.
