The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern this week are discussing why Jose Mourinho would be silly to not to go all out for Tottenham full-back Danny Rose, in a swap deal that could see Luke Shaw go the other way.

Having been heavily linked with a move to Man United last summer, the Tottenham left-back looked destined to be on his way out of White Hart Lane, especially after his outburst in a summer interview. The England international was fined and forced to give a public apology following it and, the Spurs fans in the bar didn’t take to well to his comments after he criticised the club.

Despite not playing for the majority of the year due to a knee injury, Mourinho is still keen on bringing the Doncaster born player back up North. Indeed, the reports also suggest that Pochettino is only willing to let Rose go in exchange for United flop Shaw, who has had a torrid time at Old Trafford.

Mourinho would want the pacey left back, as that’s been a problem area for the Red Devils since he arrived at Old Trafford, but our landlord reckons the Portuguese would massively regret not making the move for the England international for these two reasons…

Desperate need

United have long needed a left-back ever since Patrice Evra left the club for pastures new, Luke Shaw was the guy and long-term replacement for the former captain, however, things just haven’t turned out the way everybody expected them to do in the past few years.

Mourinho will want to start looking at a player that is young and pacey to get United going from the back, although Ashley Young has done extremely well this season, the 33-year-old will soon show signs of his age in the team.

A player with ambition

Following his outburst, Rose stated the fact that he wanted to win trophies, and he will look to his former teammate Kyle Walker to see what he has achieved this season with United’s rivals City – with him looking to do likewise.

He wants to play back up north and he wants to be surrounded by top class players, all of this fits the bill for a move to United.
