Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are feeling pretty good at the moment…

The Citizens currently sit in third and have a game in hand over their title rivals Chelsea and Tottenham. Pep Guardiola has had a better time of it competing in the cup. They beat both Huddersfield Town and AFC Monaco in recent weeks as City look to book a quarter-final spot in both the Champions League and FA Cup.

With Sergio Aguero coming back off the bench, due to Gabriel Jesus’ season-ending injury, goals seem to be flowing back at the Etihad. However, with the depth of squad at Manchester City’s disposal, it means that they have a plethora of both experience and youth that Guardiola can call upon.

The landlord in the Transfer Tavern thinks that if Guardiola drafts in some of these players at his disposal then it could fire the Sky Blues to the top.

With that in mind let’s look at TWO Manchester City players who should be given more of a chance under Guardiola.

Fernando

Manchester City have had a good season, however, they have been prone to conceding goals. The Manchester club have conceded 29 goals and only have 9 Premier League clean sheets this season. Those clean sheets came against sides in the bottom half of the table.

Fingers have been pointed at Claudio Bravo as well as the back four. Yet the landlord at the Tavern feels that reinforcements in the centre of the park could stop City leaking the goals.

Fernando would be a perfect regular in Guardiola’s team. The Brazilian’s sturdy physique and strength would stop the goals going in. The steely midfielder has made just 5 Premier League starts this season and if Guardiola decides to bring him back into the starting fold then there will surely be more hard fought victories at the Etihad.

Nolito

Nolito started off as a regular in the Man City first team, and to be honest, he was impressive.

He has scored 4 goals and earned 2 assists in the Premier League, and that is despite the fact that he has largely been utilised as a bit-part player so far this year.

Players like Sane and Sterling are, of course, hard to displace – but surely Guardiola needs to give the Spaniard a chance. He might not be as flashy or as high-profile as his team mates – but he would do a job.
