Pep Guardiola should reconsider his striking options with Sergio Aguero struggling to find a consistent run of form. A move into the January transfer market would surely get Aguero’s overall game back to the clinical best we know.
Our Manchester City fans here at the Tavern may look to the statistics and claim Aguero is in the best goal-scoring run of his career. Maybe so, but stats don’t tell the whole story, and the Argentine looks a million miles from recapturing his best form and increasing his general level of play.
If Pep Guardiola is really going to achieve success, the over-reliance on Sergio Aguero will need to cease swiftly. Young starlet Kelechi Iheanacho continues to excite many with his devastatingly good finishing but you cannot place the ambitions of a club like Manchester City on a 20-year-old.
So with all this taken into consideration, here are 2 strikers our landlord feels City should make a move for this January.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
The Gabon forward has scored 52 goals in his last 63 and is literally destroying the Bundesliga on a weekly basis. Aubameyang has been considered the symbol of Thomas Tuchel’s Borussia Dortmund side in the Tavern as they continue to try and recapture that precious Bundesliga title.
Aubameyang’s lightening quick pace added with his deadly finishing make him a perfect fit for this Guardiola side according to many of our City regulars.
He could be unstoppable alongside Sergio Aguero.
Romulu Lukaku
Lukaku has been in crippling form for Everton in recent weeks and scored against City last weekend to further highlight his red-hot streak. Everton would be reluctant to lose their Belgian warrior and any potential move would likely demand upwards of £60million, purely based on his fantastic form.
No reports of Lukaku to City have yet to incur, but with his physicality and superb finishing he would make a perfect fit for this Manchester City as he has youth on his side.
He would serve as a perfect contrast to the quick, pass and move style of football that Guardiola has utilised thus far – and he will give the Sky Blues a further outlet going forward.
