Harry in for Ruud

230px-ruud-van-nistelrooyThe Daily Mirror is reporting that Harry Redknapp is interested in bringing Ruud Van Nistelrooy back to the Premier League. The 33-year-old is out of favour at Real Madrid and is keen for a move away as he seeks first-team football.

Liverpool have also been credited with an interest in the Dutchman but Tottenham may enter the race to sign him as they push for a top-four finish. Redknapp has been told by Daniel Levy that he must sell before he spends and the likes of Roman Pavlyuchenko, David Bentley and Alan Hutton could all leave White Hart Lane as he looks to raise funds for other purchases. The imminent sale of Pavlyuchenko would create a space for a striker and Redknapp is keen to bring in Van Nistelrooy who has a fine goalscoring record in the Premier League.

The player is available for transfer with a loan move also a possibility; one stumbling block may be his wages. At Real Madrid, Van Nistelrooy is reportedly on 150k a week and these wages may be too much for Tottenham; especially for a player who is unlikely to start at first given the flourishing partnership of Crouch and Defoe.

Bringing in a player of Van Nistelrooy’s quality would be a real sign of intent from Spurs; they have a genuine chance of finishing in the top four this season and the arrival of a Premier League legend would certainly make their rivals sit up and take notice of the progress that is being made in that part of North London.
