The resident Kopites were cursing their side’s lack of consistency in the Transfer Tavern last night after Liverpool lost 1-0 to Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.
Liverpool’s defeat against rock-bottom Swansea yesterday evening epitomised the unpredictability of Premier League football. The Reds previous fixture saw them pit their wits against the league-leaders Manchester City, and they emerged victorious from that encounter by 4 goals to 3, so their trip to Wales should have been nothing less comfortable than a routine victory, on paper at least.
As football has come to teach us over the years, no match is ever won on paper, and Swansea defied the pre-match expectations to stage a huge victory in their bid for survival this season.
Swansea claimed their victory courtesy of Alfie Mawson’s 3rd goal of the season with 40 minutes on the clock, and The Swans defended valiantly in the second-half to move level on points with 19th placed West Brom.
In the aftermath of proceedings, the Liverpool fans were incandescent on social media, and plenty opted to vent their feelings of frustration on Twitter.
Although almost the entirety of the Liverpool squad were on the receiving end of criticism from the supporters – including club talisman Mo Salah – Georginio Wijnaldum was singled out as the key scapegoat by the majority.
Wijnaldum was in sensational form at the heart of the midfield against Man City, but his failure to replicate a similar performance against Swansea has clearly angered The Reds faithful.
Here’s what the fans had to say about Wijnaldum’s performance last night…
Wijnaldum performance was an absolute joke tonight, did he spend week in the cafes in Amsterdam, never seen a slower player in possession of the ball at this level

Matip and Van Dijk have provided so much more creativity than Wijnaldum which is a huge problem.

Gini is the most inconsistent player in this team, but its ok Keita will replace him.

If Wijnaldum never started an away game again I’d be delighted, lad gets away with murder from our fanbase his performance was an absolute joke tonight

He was taking 4 and 5 touches everytime he had the ball before he passed it sideways and backwards, it was insane watching it

Just not good enough for what we need for those types of matches….we go away …11 men behind the ball….the game dies….these matches are where we need two strikers
