The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been slating their 29-year-old German international Mesut Ozil. The number ten created seven chances yesterday as Germany bowed out of the World Cup with a 2-0 loss to South Korea and the Gunners have been jumping to slate their £45-million midfielder, as valued by Transfermarkt.

This isn’t the first time that Arsenal fans have had a pop at Ozil. The attacking midfielder has come under heavy fire on more than one occasion for his perceived lack of work-rate and lack of passion on the pitch. The ex-Real Madrid man is often seen walking about the pitch, failing to muck in defensively and never fails to take abuse for it. The midfielder has become synonymous with ‘going missing’ in big games for Arsenal an the fans are rarely wrong.
Yesterday though, Ozil put a number of chances on a plate for teammates with some woeful finishing being the reason that Germany have been knocked out at the group stage for the first time in their history. The Gunners will be hoping that Unai Emery can get more out of Ozil than Joachim Low has managed this summer and some of the fans have even been calling for the club to cash in on the nonchalant midfielder, with a younger, more hard-working alternative being called for at The Emirates.

“Chances” or…”short passes around the opposition box”??

Nobody doubts his technical ability, people are annoyed because dosent put in the effort to get the ball back when things arnt going well. If he did that he would be a top player. Just a passenger, dosent shoot tackle or run. Passing is good. Thats it though.

It’s clear to see that the Arsenal fans will want more for Ozil this season as the midfielder’s lack of effort is really starting to irk some of them.
