Hello Griezmann, bye Fellaini: A potential new Man Utd XI in 2017 under Mourinho

We’re all expecting a busy transfer window here in the Transfer Tavern come January but our Manchester United fans are thinking further ahead to next summer as well.

You can’t blame them either.

With many thinking their title hopes are over this season the top four is likely their highest possible finish this year and so eyes are already drifting towards what they could do ready for 2017/18.

With the money United have at their disposal it could be a very impressive summer window again for the club and according to The Sun they have opened talks over a prospective move for Antoine Griezmann next summer.

Such a move would really put the cat amongst the pigeons in this country and our landlord reckons the title would almost certainly be United’s next year.

There may be outgoings in January, though, with Marouane Fellaini linked by The Times with a move to Italy so things could really be set to change next year for United.

It’s certainly a good looking side on paper and so, for your perusal, our landlord has put the potential 2017 Man United line-up together…

GK: David De Gea

United won’t want to lose this man any time soon.

They can buy all the top attacking talent in the world but they still need to make sure the Spanish ‘keeper is in-between the sticks at the back.

RB: Antonio Valencia

The right back seems to have overcome any doubts people had about him as being an out and out player in this position.

He’s strong and quick but crucially his defensive positioning really isn’t that bad at all.

CB: Eric Bailly

The Ivorian has had a fair few injury issues this season but there can be no doubt that when he’s fit he’ll nearly always be in the side.

He reads the game very well and looks like a proper Premier League player already.

CB: Phil Jones

This is a big call from our landlord but one he feels is warranted.

The former Blackburn Rovers man has returned to the side in style this season and deserves to play even when Chris Smalling is back at full fitness.

LB: Matteo Darmian

The Italian full back has become Mourinho’s first choice ahead of Daley Blind so we shouldn’t expect that to change soon.

The summer window next year could see a potential replacement come in, however.

CDM: Michael Carrick

Carrick has been a class act this season and deserves to play a part into next year too.

He knits United together and they look so much more cohesive with him in the side than without.

CDM: Ander Herrera

Ander has been a real success story this season and should be an integral part of next year’s side too.

He works very hard for the team but also combines that with good technical ability and so has to be involved.

RAM: Antoine Griezmann

The man that could turn United into title winners once more.

Griezmann is world class and would surely relish making the Old Trafford side a force again. He can play pretty much anywhere in the forward positions so, whilst he’s on the right here, he’s free to roam.

CAM: Paul Pogba

One of the other reasons why Griezmann is out wide is because of this man.

Pogba has to play down the middle and is beginning to show his ability this season in the Premier League. Surely, then, he’ll only get better next year, too.

LAM: Jesse Lingard

Lingard has been another success this season and has really come of age.

He knows when to run off defenders and take them on whilst his delivery has got a lot better. The United fans here by the bar are wanting more of the same in 2017.

ST: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The big man just does not seem to be stopping so it wouldn’t be any surprise at all to see him lead the line next year.

He’s still got his power and technique whilst his finishing ability is still up there with the best in the world.
