Arsenal have improved a lot in recent seasons, with the arrivals of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil bolstering their ranks, but there is many in the Transfer Tavern that feel the Gunners are a little short of being fully competitive.
Despite finishing second in the Premier League last season and third the year before, the Gunners have never quite looked like going all the way in the competition and have endured a regular Round of 16 exit from the Champions League in recent years.
For that to change, Arsene Wenger needs to not be reluctant to open his chequebook and one area that our landlord feels needs improving is Arsenal’s left-wing, as he’s unconvinced by the current options of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alex Iwobi, who lack consistently.
Links to Paris Saint-Germain’s Lucas Moura have certainly gone down well with the Arsenal punters at the bar, and they’ve been sketching their ideal attacking front-line with the Brazilian in the squad.
LW: Lucas Moura
The Brazilian ace has never quite established himself in Paris Saint-Germain’s pecking order, having face a wealth of competition in recent years, but the 24-year-old boasts tremendous ability and would excel on the left-side of Arsenal’s attack.
Arsene Wenger’s side lack a genuine top-class left-winger and Moura would provide a boost, completing a deadly looking Arsenal attack and helping bring the best out of those around him – giving Arsenal a three-pronged front-line that would leave Premier League defenders running scared.
ST: Alexis Sanchez
Despite being shifted back out to left-wing following Olivier Giroud’s return to form, we’ve seen this season that Alexis Sanchez is a formidable striker and he’s caused a heap of problems, with only Chelsea’s Diego Costa scoring more goals than the Chilean in the Premier League this season.
The arrival of Moura would allow Alexis to shift back into the middle, whilst there would be plenty of opportunities for him to roam across the pitch as the wingers alongside him could shift into the middle- which would be a nightmare for defenders to track.
RW: Theo Walcott
Finishing off the Arsenal front-line is a player that has given a decade of service to the Gunners, arguably without reaching his best. Injury problems have played their mark, whilst Walcott has consistently made it clear he sees his future in the middle of the attack.
Impressing in this role at the start of last season, Walcott has failed to earn those opportunities since but this formation and line-up could be the next best thing, as Walcott would form part of a fluid trio that could rotate and see the Englishman through the middle at times.
