Liverpool supporters have been in high spirits in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their team get back to winning ways in the Premier League courtesy of a 2-0 success over Southampton on Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the struggling Saints off the back of drawing 2-2 with fellow Champions League chasers Tottenham in their preceding league outing, which came as huge disappointment given they were leading with just moments of the game left. Nonetheless, the Reds put that behind them and eased to victory on the South Coast on Sunday as goals from Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah secured a routine win for the Merseyside giants, in turn moving them to within two points of second place Manchester United.
Thus, there have been many thrilled Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are hoping their team can build upon Sunday’s success when they travel to Portuguese giants Porto in the last 16 of the Champions League on Wednesday.
In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Reds fans to discuss, not least the future of Spurs defender Toby Alderweireld, who has been linked with a move away from the club recently given his ongoing contract situation.
The 28-year-old has been left out of their squad for the trip to Juventus in the Champions League this evening despite making a return to first team action last week against Newport County, with it being speculated upon that his contract situation, which sees his current deal expire in 2019, may also have played a part in Mauricio Pochettino’s decision.
And many Liverpool supporters have taken to Twitter to call for their side to join the race for the £31.5 million-rated Belgium international (as per Transfermarkt)…
