The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are, for the most part, feeling pretty good. Their side has made a good start to the summer, and now it’s all about continuing that.
Improvements are needed throughout the team, but one area that perhaps needs more focus on depth, rather than improving the starting eleven, is the attack.
Between the likes of Sadio Mane, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino, it’s going to be tough for anyone to get into the attack at Anfield – but that doesn’t mean that more bodies aren’t needed. It’s a long season, and depth is required.
Fortunately, the perfect solution could be seen in homegrown Englishman Nathan Redmond. Liverpool have had a lot of success in signing players from St Mary’s, and Redmond ticks many of the boxes.
Redmond has enjoyed a few solid if unspectacular years on the south coast. An attacking midfielder by trade, on his day he’s able to dazzle with brilliant pace and technique, both of which combine to make him an incredible threat going forward.
He’s also potent from set pieces, whilst he offers a fantastic dose of energy – which would be great were he to come to Anfield. You’d expect him to come on from the bench regularly to offer that extra edge to close out a game, and so he’d fit right in.
Furthermore, he’s also just 24-years-old, and so there’s a lot of room for further growth and improvement. You only have to look at how much better players like Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have got under Jurgen Klopp. If Redmond can develop even half as much as the Ox did, Liverpool will be in for a treat.
He’s not a player to smash shirt sales or turn Liverpool into title contenders on his own, but he would be an important part of a puzzle that is already half done.
