Ian Rush is a bona fide Liverpool legend.
He is the club’s record goalscorer, having bagged 346 times for the Reds across two spells and 15 years, and with five league titles, three FA Cups and two European Cups, there aren’t too many footballers that are more decorated than him either.
Michael Owen is another who has written himself into the history of the Anfield outfit, netting 158 times for the club himself – that puts him at eighth on the all-time list. However, he later joined Manchester United, Liverpool’s fierce rivals, which damaged his reputation on Merseyside.
The 40-year-old former England international, though, claimed in his autobiography that the Welshman would have willingly signed for one of the side’s biggest rivals. These quotes have resurfaced in the past few days, with Rush denying that was ever the case.
