When Zlatan Ibrahimovic arrived in the Premier League, the early signs were he would dominate.

The big Swede was coming off the back of his most successful season yet after netting 50 goals in all competitions for Paris Saint-Germain, including an incredible 38 goals in 31 Ligue One games.

The enigmatic striker was obviously supremely confident in his own abilities and announced himself with an overhead scissor kick against Galatasaray on his pre-season debut.

He then scored the winner in the Community Shield against Leicester City before netting on his Premier League debut a week later. Following that, he scored a brace against Southampton.

Unfortunately, as the Red Devils’ form has deteriorated, so has the Swede’s. He has scored only one goal in his last eight games and the pace and power of the Premier League seems to be catching up with the aging superstar.

Many United fans at the Tavern actually see the Swede as part of the reason as he continually drops too deep to have an effect or spurns any chances in the box.

Should Ibra keep on struggling, United will need to replace him.

Here are SEVEN men who could do the job.

ROMELU LUKAKU

If United want a player of proven Premier League quality then they need look no further than Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian already has seven goals in nine games this season and looks to have finally found some consistency to match his undoubted potential.

If the 23-year-old keeps it up he may become the powerful player and lethal frontman that United fans were hoping Ibrahimovic would be – except he can do it for years to come.

MAURO ICARDI

Another prolific finisher who may be easier to acquire than Lukaku is Mauro Icardi.

The Argentine striker has the pace and movement United’s attack is currently missing and can back it up with his sharp shooting.

The Inter Milan striker has 55 goals in 102 games for his current club, the sign of a man who would consistently find the net.

With Inter in 12th place and Frank De Boer having just been sacked, Mourinho might be able to take advantage of the uncertainty with a cheeky January bid.

ALASSANE PLEA

Not a very well-known name at the moment, Alassane Plea could fit in perfectly in a new-look United attack.

Plea hails from the same Lyon academy as Anthony Martial and would link up well with the Frenchman.

At 5 foot 11 inches and should be able to handle the rigours of the Premier League while also being quick on the ball.

He also has seven goals in 11 games already this season, helping Nice to the top of the French league.

ANTOINE GRIEZMANN

This one is a huge long shot, but if we’re talking about the best striker United could possibly sign you can’t look past the Frenchman.

Some punters have claimed Neymar is within United’s reach but it’s hard to see him leaving Barcelona anytime soon after his new contract.

The same could be said for Griezmann who is playing the football of his life at Atletico Madrid but should United stump up the kind of money they’d be willing to offer for Neymar they could possibly persuade him to join and Los Rojiblancos to sell.

ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE

The final Frenchman on this list is a man who should be well-known to English fans.

Alexandre Lacazette has been consistently linked with the top clubs in England, particularly West Ham of late.

The 25-year-old has an incredible nine goals in seven games and has managed at least 20 goals in his last two campaigns.

He has been at Lyon his entire career but should the French club fail to make the Champions League, Lacazette may want to test himself against the might of the Premier League.

ANDREA BELOTTI

Another player doing the business in his respective league is Andrea Belotti.

The Torino striker has five goals in five games so far this season as well as a maiden goal for the Italian national team.

He signed for £7.5m from Palermo and will likely see his value go up four times that when the bigger teams come calling.

With Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic coming deep so often rather than leading the line, a fox in the box could be exactly what Mourinho needs.

DANIEL STURRIDGE

This final move would be a bold one indeed.

Daniel Sturridge has found it difficult to force his way into Jurgen Klopp’s plans this year even when he is fit.

It appears the England striker doesn’t quite fit in with the German’s pressing philosophy, but he is undoubtedly one of the league’s best finishers.

If United can somehow persuade their rivals to sell with a big-money bid, Sturridge could provide the goals to lift them from their current malaise.
