You could forgive the Manchester City fans feeling underwhelmed following their lacklustre performances last season.
The Citizen’s optimism following the appointment of Pep Guardiola has certainly died down and the Spanish boss is now under the pump to spend big in the summer transfer window. The City fans in the Tavern expect trophies and Guardiola will have to deliver next season in order to prove he is not a flop in English football.
Whilst success is in demand, our landlord has reiterated that City must not be ‘gung-ho’ in the transfer window and must sign their specific targets before their rivals get to them. The emphasis for City must be to bring in quality and not quantity this summer.
Our resident City fans agree with our landlord but this has not stopped them from discussing further who they’d like to see come through the doors at the Etihad. The squad is not getting any younger and an influx of talent is needed to compete on all fronts next season, that is for sure.
So, with that said and various names flying around the Tavern – let’s take a look at the TWO signings Guardiola must seal immediately…
Leonardo Bonucci

The Italian centre-half has been simply sensational for Juventus in recent years and the reports flying around towards the end of last season stated that Bonucci is Guardiola’s number one defensive option to bring to the Etihad.
Of course, a hefty price for a player just beyond his 30th birthday may seem like poor business but the pure quality of Bonucci means that the price tag would be fully justified should he bring a couple of titles with him to City.
The City fans in the Tavern are really itching for Bonucci to sign for their club, with many believing a partnership with club captain, Vincent Kompany would be a nightmare for many teams next season.
Kyle Walker

Our landlord believes Walker to be a really important signing for City this summer. The end of contracts for both Pablo Zabaleta and Bacary Sagna means that Guardiola simply must seal the deal for the Spurs’ right back.
Of course, the fact that he is also English helps the club registration wise but it also means that the Citizens may have to pay above the odds to get their man.
The City fans in the Tavern are fairly excited at the prospect of Walker with many thinking the injection of his energy is something their side needs in the fullback position.
