Chelsea go into pre-season with the aim of attempting to break back into the top four.
This will not be an easy task for the Stamford Bridge outfit. Both Manchester clubs look strong, Tottenham are in a great position with Harry Kane leading the line, and Liverpool are fresh out of Champions League final. Even London rivals Arsenal look like they are experiencing a new lease of life under Unai Emery, and have made several high profile signings this window.
With the objective of immediate improving looming over the club, whether youth will be given a chance in South West London is questionable. Chelsea do not have a good track record of offering young players opportunities in their first team. The club is infamous for loaning players out to a series of clubs, before cashing in on their potential.
With that in mind, here are two Chelsea wonder kids who should look to force an exit from Stamford Bridge if they are not given an opportunity in pre-season..
It is difficult to see what more the England international can do to become a first team regular for the Blues.
The Lewisham-born midfield power house had such an impressive season at Crystal Palace that he found himself in Gareth Southgate’s England set up.
Loftus-Cheek had this incredibly successful season despite battling an injury and being deployed on the left, rather than straight down the middle.
With the ability to beat players, pick a pass and strike fear into opposition defenders with his dribbling ability, it is hard to see why he wouldn’t be given a chance in this pre-season.
If he does not get a chance in this pre-season, he should certainly look to force an exit and move on to pastures new.
The American is now twenty and must be chomping at the bit for a chance in pre-season.
Strangely, despite never having made a Premier League appearance for Chelsea, he has already played for three different national sides, in Ireland, England and the USA. He is also eligible to play for Italy.
Scott is a technically gifted midfielder, but he will not continue to develop unless he gets a chance in the first team.
For the good of his career, he should move on if he does not get a chance in this pre-season.
