The defender has been the one constant at Stamford Bridge over the last few years, and given how long he has been at the club, the prospect of replacing him is certainly going to be a tough one for Antonio Conte.
Conte is, of course, expected to sign a replacement, but what if the Chelsea captain’s real replacement is already at the club? Since returning to Stamford Bridge, David Luiz has arguably been the Premier League’s best defender – and his stats certainly seem to back that up.
Monday night’s game against West Ham was one of his best performances yet, with a characteristically stellar display from the Brazilian.

Indeed, aerial dominance, last ditch defending and crossfield passing are all traits that Terry has been famed for throughout his career, and Luiz has fit in seamlessly. Luiz is the man that has taken Terry’s spot this season, and if he keeps performing like this – then Conte has no need to replace Terry – Luiz is already the man for the job.
