Everton punters in the Transfer Tavern are toasting their ales to goalkeeper Joel Robles, who has revealed he wants to sign a new deal at Goodison Park.
The former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper has endured a mixed spell on Merseyside but has really come into his own in recent weeks, following an injury to Maarten Stekelenburg.
Since coming in for the Dutchman in December, Robles has gone on to claim six clean sheets in ten appearances, helping the Toffees consolidate their position just outside of the Premier League’s top six.
However, the Spaniard’s future at Everton remains uncertain, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.
That suggests Ronald Koeman could already be looking elsewhere, especially considering Stekelenburg’s performances have received a mixed reception from Everton punters in the Tavern since his summer move from Fulham (via loan spells at Monaco and Southampton).
But Robles has recently told International Business Times that he’s eager to hold onto his No.1 spot until the end of the campaign, and will only leave Goodison Park if the club tell him to.
As quoted by IBT, he said; “I want to stay here as many years as possible. Everton is like a home for me after four seasons. The people of Liverpool are very friendly. I am very happy with my teammates and in the club.
“My contract will expire next season but I’m not worried. We have not spoken about anything yet but my first choice will be [to stay] at Everton.
“I have it very clear and I will not leave until the club tell me that they don’t want me here. If they tell me that I will pack the suitcases and leave but I have very clear that priority is to stay at Everton.”
