Arsenal sprung back into life with a 3-0 win over Bournemouth at the weekend and many Gunners fans here in the Tavern are hoping they have turned the corner.
After a turbulent opening few weeks to the season and a transfer window which once again proved to be more controversial and distracting than necessary, the club are hoping to put it all behind them and get back to football and winning ways in September.
Our landlord here in the Tavern though questions whether Arsenal are back in form, or whether next week will see the club once again drop points against the big clubs when they visit Chelsea.
Sure enough, the Gunners put away Eddie Howe’s men with relative ease yesterday, but the Cherries never really tested Arsenal. As we saw against Liverpool, Wenger’s men can be gotten at easily, and they could well whimper to another defeat against the Blues next week.
Despite this opinion though, the Gunners needed a win. Manager Wenger will be delighted to have got some minutes into Alexis Sanchez, while the return to goalscoring form of Danny Welbeck is a welcome boost.
Next week will be the acid test so to speak though when they visit Stamford Bridge. Another heavy defeat like the one against Liverpool could once again have Arsenal fans on the back foot and calling for Wenger’s head.
