Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are keeping their ears pricked, hoping our landlord will come down to the bar and provide another update on Wayne Rooney’s future at Manchester United.
Last night, The Telegraph suggested Rooney could quit Old Trafford before the end of the month amid interest from the Chinese Super League, with their transfer window not due to slam shut until next Tuesday.
But according to The Independent, the England skipper has decided he wants to stay in England for both ‘footballing and financial’ reasons, meaning he’s now hoping for an offer to join another Premier League club.
Although not mentioned by The Independent’s report, the idea of a glorious return to boyhood club Everton has inevitably been discussed by Toffees patrons in the Tavern this afternoon.
Rooney began his career at Goodison Park – netting 17 times in 77 appearances before moving to Old Trafford as a teenager back in summer 2004 – and the notion of re-joining the Toffees has been mentioned continuously in recent campaigns as Rooney’s form has naturally declined.
Evertonians in the Tavern are seemingly split on Rooney’s potential comeback, but it appears Toffees supporters on Twitter are behind the idea a little more.
